Measuring for new PVC windows can be very simple, first there are two measurements we require to provide any quote, width and height.
Outside measurement is preferred, if not assessable inside measurements will do but will need to be noted.
Measurements on the exterior will start right where you siding ends and window starts this area is call the brickmould. You will also repeat vertically top brickmould to bottom of sill.
Measurements from the interior of the home will come from what you see inside the frame of the window. Width frame to frame and Height frame to frame. We will be able to add specific amount for quoting purposes.
*** Width X Height ***
Note as well what you would like you new windows to do.
Casement(Open like door)
Awning(Open from bottom)
Sliders
Next we will need to know the jam thickness - See Below
When we talk about jam we are not talking about the delicious spread you put between a peanut and jelly sandwich we are talking about the thickness of your wall.
To find your jam is also quite as simple as measuring exterior sizes, if you open any exterior door to your home and measure the width between the interior casing and exterior brickmould you will come with a number which indicates your jam.
Most common jam sizes will be
4 1/2" Jam (2x4 wall) and 6 1/2" Jam(2x6 wall)
** Important, do not include casing or brickmould in the jam size
If your window frames are good and your looking for only to replace the glass measuring them is a piece of cake.
Step #1 Measure only the glass you see.
Step #2 Note if there is two panes of glass or three, if you don't know shine a light onto the glass and count how many reflections of the light you see in the glass. Note as well if your fames are PVC or wood.
Step #3 Email or call K&K Glass with the measurements.
